Znanstvenici s Novog Zelanda u utorak su izvršili obdukciju nad jednom od najrjeđih vrsta na svijetu: kolosalnoj lignji.

Ovo misteriozno biće koje spada u razred glavonožaca ribari su ulovili još u siječnju na dubini od 1600 metara ispod površine Rossovog mora uz obale Antarktike.

Kapetan broda John Bennett i njegov tim izvukli su tada golemo stvorenje koje je težilo 350 kilograma.

Nakon toga, divovsku su lignju smrznuli na osam mjeseci u muzeju u Wellingtonu, a ona je najbolje sačuvan primjerak te vrste. Morsko čudovište morali su prenijeti do laboratorija uz pomoć viličara.

Znanstvenici su utvrdili da je riječ o ženskoj lignji s tri srca, krakovima dugim 3,3 metra, očima promjera 35 centimetara, te da je nosila nekoliko jajašaca.

- Ovo je najsavršenija lignja koju smo ikad vidjeli - složili su se znanstvenici.

Današnje seciranje trajalo je gotovo tri sata i 40 minuta, a uživo se prenosilo preko YouTubea. Snimku je dosad pregledalo više od 372.000 ljudi diljem svijeta.

Uzeti uzorci bit će sačuvani za daljnja istraživanja.
